'Capeshooters' finds home at Warners
Bryan Singer in talks to produce the superhero project

With one comic superhero lighting up its boxoffice, Warner Bros. is trying to develop another potential comic franchise by acquiring the superhero project "Capeshooters," with Bryan Singer in negotiations to produce.

J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani will write the screenplay, which follows two down-on-their-luck slackers who specialize in shooting videos of superheroes. They find themselves on the run when they uncover evidence that a legendary superhero actually is evil.

The story is based on an upcoming graphic novel by Rob Liefeld, who was one of the founders of Image Comics and at one point one of the hottest artists in the comics arena.

Singer will produce via his shingle Bad Hat Harry. The company's Alex Garcia is executive producing.

Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment and Liefield also will produce in some capacity. Matt Reilly and Matt Milam are overseeing for the studio.

The news comes on the eve of Comic-Con in San Diego, where film and TV studios will roll out such fare as "Watchmen," "The Spirit" and "Fringe" for thousands of salivating genre-lovers while execs will troll for other hot comic properties.

WMA-repped Singer has a soft spot for costumed creations, having helmed two "X-Men" movies and "Superman Returns," Warners' reboot of the franchise in 2006.

Damiani and Lavin, repped by WMA and Luber Roklin Entertainment, are writers on Ryan Seacrest's KISS-FM morning show and also work on "American Idol." The first feature script, "Kamikaze Love," was on the Black List last year and is set up at Screen Gems.

Now... It does not say the Bryan Singer will direct the film, but what does this mean for his sequel to Superman Returns??

Is this good news???

Singer is only involved because he is part of Bad Hat Harry. Notice Alex Garcia, NOT Singer is executive producer. Singer is more well known so they tossed his name out in front to generate more interest.

Of course, as a compromise to getting him away from Superman, WB may be giving his production company more deals. Purely speculation on my part, but who knows. He does still have a handfull of friends in WB regardless of how SR was received or what they plan to do in the future. So it could mean nothing at all and simply be every day business and that's it.

Sounds like an interesting

Sounds like an interesting movie, and yea i agree with steve singer will probably not have any big part in making this film besides his company and name be attached to it to generate buzz. But maybe this could be what like steve said give singer/singer's company work with other movies so he is not getting totally screwed over from superman.

Yeah it does sound like it

Yeah it does sound like it has potential.

Especially if Singer has minimal involvement beyond company and name buzz.

Will have to keep my ear to the ground about this one...Not sure if it is going to be action, comedy, or what maybe a combination sort of like Jackie Chan lots of action with plenty of comedy dispersed throughout as these guys try to evade this supervillian masquerading as a hero.

A glance at imdb says Singer

A glance at imdb says Singer has only produced 2 films that he didn't direct and those were very low budget. Is this a new turn in his career; going on to producing bigger things, or is this his old pattern of behavior, producing what he directs?

If Singer moves onto directing this before MOS, can even the perpetually dim Singerites claim MOS is still happening? I have faith that somehow they'll find a way. Didn't they swear for months that the announcement would come yesterday? I guess that makes them "congenital liars" who are just "spreading BS to hype themselves and their cause". Somewhere Leterrier, Millar, Gale, Miller, and Thompson are laughing themselves sick.

yea alot think oh its

yea alot think oh its happening its coming very soon. BS is likely never to be able to touch superman again for wb.

delphi's picture

Oh no, he very well could.

Oh no, he very well could. But the hypocrisy of Singerites is such that if they can't twist and turn to explain away MOS impediments, then they'll go right to demonizing the messenger, all the while continuing their "congenital lies" to "hype their cause."

The mirror of their ugliness shines back at them, so they are quick to paint others in their image.

Could this ACTUALLY be the

Could this ACTUALLY be the SEQUEL THAT IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER, in disguise?! A superhero who is actually evil? WAIT A MINUTE! Didn't Singer ALREADY do this?! You know, that Stalkerman who lurks & peeps, who is also a deadbeat by not providing financial & other support for that little twerp! Yes, Evil Superman from Superman 3, you have NOTHING on THIS guy!

And we ALREADY know how Singerman likes to *ahem* be shot! ;)

A definite trend has

A definite trend has surfaced and has been going on consistently of late..

Not too long ago most media outlets, blogs, and news articles used to tip toe around calling Singer's Stalkerman a failure..

Now, you can hardly read ANYTHING that touches on film and the super hero genre without a mention of what a crap movie Singer's offering was.

"There have been missteps and disappointments — Ang Lee’s 2003 “Hulk”; Mr. Singer’s “Superman Returns”"

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/24/movies/24supe.html

You all know this is true. You can hardly read a news article or anything else on superhero films today without reading a parting shot taken at Singer and Returns.

Where were these guys and that honesty just a couple of years ago?
